Fantastic News, 2026 we see the introduction of a new 5 mile route.

Wrexham lager to be prize sponsor for Llangollen Fell Race 2026

350 runners are expected to compete across 3 different routes of 17, 10 or 5 miles duration. The 5 mile route being new for 2026. This is the 9th running of the race and all race profits go to the local mountain rescue and Llangollen Foodbank. Over the 9 years over £10,000 has been donated to these worthy local causes.

Sharon Roberts of Wrexham lager said she was delighted to support this local race which has become a popular fixture in the Welsh Fell running calendar. Howard Jones race organiser welcomed the generous donation of Wrexham lager three bottle gift packs and Wrexham lager bobble hats, perfect prizes for fell runners !

Changes for 2026:

  • A new 5 mile route
  • A change to the finish for the 18 and 10 mile routes
  • All routes will be taking in the iconic Dinas Bran Castle, a well known landmark for Llangollen. The added bonus is that there will now be more off road for the finish.
  • Raffle prizes, very kindly donated by a number of organisations, keep an eye out on our socials to see as and when we announce them. You can buy extra tickets when entering the race.

Long Course

The 18 Mile Route has around 3000ft of elevation, starting on the playing fields of Dinas Bran Leisure Centre, taking in the beautiful views across Trevor Rocks, Eglwyseg and Ruabon Mountain, making the long climb up to Cyrn Y Brain to see the mast and along towards Watkins Tower. With a quick refreshments stop after the famous Duck Boards you will pick up the Offa’s Dyke and head along the beautiful Worlds End Trail

New finish:

Before reaching the road near Rock Farm you will head up the gully and re-join the route you came out on. Your final climb will then be up and over the iconic Dinas Bran Castle, where you will then head back to the finish on the playing field where you started. .

 Medium Course 

A 11 Mile Route, with an ascent of 832m/2730ft, you will also start on the Dinas Bran Leisure Centre playing fields, heading out the same route as the long course, having the opportunity to take in the breath taking views of Trevor Rocks,  Ruabon Mountain, Eglwyseg Mountain. Near Craig y Cythraul you will peel off from the long route and head down the Offa’s Dyke path, and part of the beautiful Worlds End trail.

New finish:

This is an ideal step towards the longer 18 mile route for next year.

 Short Course 

A new short route has been added this year. This is aimed at those who are new to fell running, or just want to join the fun but run a shorter route.

With just under 6 miles and 1400ft/430m ascent this little gem promises to be a good introduction to fell racing.

You will start from the playing field at Llangollen leisure centre and out onto the road to then head uphill (Donkey Hill). You will continue on the same beginning part of the route as the 18 and 11 mile course. After the quarry you will then peel off and head up Crazy As

Where possible the event try’s to source prizes locally, this year will be no different, prizes will be awarded to the overall winner, and first man and woman of each age category, up to and including 60 years old.

One of the main reasons for our race is to raise funds for our local mountain rescue NEWSAR and year on year we raise vital funds for them.

We have been raising money since 2022 for NEWSAR and again in 2025 we handed over £1000 donation to Gerrard and the Team who will hopefully again be supporting our event next year.

This race will be run under WFRA conditions meaning full kit must be carried. The following Kit will be required and there will be random checks at registration

This is a Fell Race, You will require adequate footwear
